As stated above, when the axe is used on a single block of the tree it will instantly destroy the rest of the blocks upwards from the manually mined block, leaving behind small puffs of smoke. Excluding the smoke animation, the axe thus provides roughly the same function as the Treecapitator mod included in Technic SSP. However, if you have the Redpower mod installed, the Thaumium Axe is the only way to easily chop down Redpower's rubber trees.

The axe is crafted with a Thaumium Axe, two eldritch timbers, and two verdant vis crystals as shown below.
