Vis Crystals are Vis in solid form. They are one of the most important ingredients for crafting and infusing equipment in the ThaumCraft mod. There are five different shapes in total, all of which can be encountered in the wild in the form of crystal wisps. Crystal wisps are often associated with an element which corresponds to the environment they are found in.

Obtaining Vis Crystals[]

If you attack a wild crystal wisp with a melee weapon, it will stop moving and start attacking you with a long-range magic attack. Depending on the elemental affinity of the attacking crystal, the attack may poison you, set you on fire or make you nauseous and mess up your vision pretty bad. The best way of defeating them is probably using a bow or a similar long-range weapon, as the crystal wisps have a rather large hitbox of about one standard Minecraft block. If you are using a bow, you need to hit the wisp three times before it turns into a collectible Vis crystal.

Besides encountering and defeating Vis crystal wisps, Vis crystals can be obtained by using a Vis Condenser, which basically generates standard Vis crystals out of thin air, or by cloning them in a Thaumic Duplicator, which is the only method to produce large quantities of Vis crystals with an elemental affinity.

Types of Crystal[]

There are five different crystals in total:

	Type	Occurence
	Standard Vis crystal (no elemental affinity).	Spawns everywhere. Can be created with a Vis Condenser.
	Verdant Vis crystal (plants).	Spawns in swamps and forests.
	Fiery Vis crystal (fire).	Spawns in deserts, in the Nether, or near lava.
	Frozen Vis crystal (ice).	Spawns in winter biomes or when its raining.
	Electrified Vis crystal (electricity).	Spawns "anywhere else".
