Check out my new crafting recipe reference page for Minecraft mods: Minecraft Mod Guides |
I am a male twentysomething severely addicted to the sweet, sweet drug that is the Minecraft Technic Pack.
I have implemented the Crafting Table GUI and I have also created a variety of other GUI templates for the wiki pages about the Industrialcraft and Thaumcraft mods, among others. If you have any questions about the templates or anything else, feel free to leave a message on my talk page.
Check this test page to see what I am currently working on.

I installed it on the experimental Technic SSP release 7.0.1 following the instructions from direwolf20 and it works fine for me. Here's what will you have to do (in that exact order):
Preparations 1) Download the recommended release of Minecraft Forge (currently 3.1.3.105) 2) Download the 4096 Block ID fix 3) Download the Forge version of Mystcraft - you have to absolutely make sure you get the correct version; if you download the wrong one, the game will not start 4) Download ChickenBones' CodeChickenCore 5) Download ChickenBones' NEI (NotEnoughItems, Requires CodeChickenCore) - 1.2.2
Now for the actual installation: 1) Back up your existing worlds, if you have any. 1.a) If you are not already using the newest experimental build 7.0.1, you should manually choose it in the Launcher from the "Options" submenu. 2) Clear your local cache and let the Launcher download a fresh, untouched version of the Technic Pack 7.0.1. 3) Now we need to create an ID dump. Start the game and create a world. Open up the inventory and click on "Options". Then click on "Block/Item ID Settings", and then on "Dump ID Map Now". This will create a timestamped block and item ID list in the folder "%appdata%\.techniclauncher\technicssp" - press the Windows Key + R and copy this into the line, it will directly open the Technic SSP folder on your harddrive. Close the game after you have dumped the ID list. 4) The item ID list will have a filename like "IDMap dump [DATE] at [TIME].txt", where [DATE] and [TIME] will indicate when the list was created. Open it with a text editor and keep it open in the background. 5) Press the Windows Key + R and enter "%appdata%\.techniclauncher\technicssp\bin\" into the command window. Copy and paste the file "modpack.jar" right into the same folder, this will create a backup in case something goes wrong. 6) Open the file "modpack.jar" using file compression programs like WinRAR or 7zip (the latter of which can be downloaded free of charge on this page) 7) Extract the contents of the Minecraft forge archive into modpack.jar and confirm all file overwriting prompts 8) Extract the contents of the 4096 fix archive into modpack.jar 9) Extract the contents of the Forge-compatible Mystcraft archive into modpack.jar 10) Extract the contents of ChickenBones' CodeChickenCore archive into modpack.jar 11) Extract the contents of ChickenBones' NotEnoughItems (NEI) archive into modpack.jar
Mystcraft is now installed, but you will have to test whether the game runs properly. Mystcraft needs a total of seven different Block IDs to run and there might be conflifts between it and other mods from the pack. In order to determine whether there are any conflicts, start the launcher and try to login and start the game. If it runs: wonderful!
If it doesn't: don't just close the game, check the error message. If you game crashes immediately without showing a message, open the file "Modloader.txt" in the directory "%appdata%\.techniclauncher\technicssp\". This is a Modloader logfile, and it will show you when and why the game crashes. The most probable error for crashing problems is a Block ID conflict. You can resolve this like so:
1) Check which IDs conflict and write them down. We will then compare the conflicting IDs from Mystcraft with the Block ID list we dumped earlier (and which you hopefully have still opened in the background - if not, open it now). 2) Open the file "mystcraft_config.txt" in the folder "%appdata%\.techniclauncher\technicssp\config\". 3) Find free Block IDs in the dumped Block ID list and change the conflicting block IDs from the Mystcraft config file to IDs that are free.
It should work now, theoretically (it did for me).
My 2 cents on taint. Since research with taint crystals is just not worth it, unless you got EE.. derp, you need to taint an area so you can research everything. This is the best way I found to get taint, research and then clean it, legit.
1° Find a desert. 1.1° Find a chunk with really low aura. Vis AND Taint.
2° Hook a crucible to a few filters, even just a couple will do - not stacked - and burn some stuff. You don't even have to overflow the crucible. Put some tanks for the extra vis so it wont clog your system. Since deserts have a really low aura for both vis and taint, it doesn't take much effort to get a negative aura and therefore taint. Don't go crazy with it though, cleaning taint when playing legit is a ****. Raise it to max 1/4 of the max aura, stop everything and wait a bit, it will show up.
3° Harvest EVERYTHING that show up to get tainted artifacts, especially GRASS for a lot of TAINT SPORES and SPORES for RARE ARTIFACTS. Maybe even planting some trees as well if you want tainted leaves ( concentrated taint pot - i think..). You can quickly place a block of dirt and before it becomes tainted, place a sapling and bone meal, to get some tainted trees in a already tainted area. Enchanted shovels with efficiency make short work of tainted blocks, including spores, you might need it to make things fast. 3.1° Research artifacts till you get everything you need in taint branch.
How to research legit: - no EE bs - Spoiler
If you're not using 30x Brain-in-a-Jar to boost your Quaesitum, you shouldn't be trying get tainted stuff yet.
Use the artifacts Taint Spores, Tainted Organ, Tainted Fruit and Tainted Branch to produce Tainted Fragments of Knowledge. Boost with 2x brains if you have them to spare. If you don't, just boost with two of these same artifacts. ( They don't have to be the same, just use the common artifacts to get the fragments. ) You'll get high chances and lots of fragments when using just artifacts. If you're low on artifacts, boost each with 2x book cases (or books).
Then use each fragment with 2x rare artifacts ( Taintspore Pod, Taint Tendrils ) for a high chance to get theories. If you get any tortuous ones, don't even bother, use them in your crucible for a little vis or to boost research.
No need to boost theories, even the tricky ones. Tortuous > Trash.
4° Once you get all discoveries, make some concentrated evil upgrades for your condensers and load them up with tainted crystals to remove the taint from the doomed chunk. You can place 2 upgrades in condensers, use quicksilver core for speed or stabilized singularities if low on tainted crystals. 4.1 When taint aura levels get really low, to completly clean the chunk, make a few concentrated vis pots and dump them in the tainted chuck to raise the vis aura. Once the aura has a positive vis balance it will start cleaning up the blocks by itself. 4.2 You might have to do the same for the neighbor chucks depending on how long your research took, taint spreads. Just don't leave a chunk with a negative aura balance. It WILL spread and will be much much worse to clean it later. 4.3 You can now build purifiers to clean the taint tanks that your condensers left behind..
Also, taint spreads VERY quickly underground near tainted crystals, so you might not see it, but once you dig a bit.. its all purple. Clean the aura in all nearby chunks before you call it done.
Thats it, hope it helps.

[21:38] <denkbert> so, anyway [21:38] <denkbert> I actually came to this channel because I wanted to do some research on minecraft modding, to resolve an argument [21:39] <Heya> that sounds a lot more entertaining [21:39] <denkbert> considering the subject, it is not =/ [21:39] <denkbert> but I like having facts [21:40] <denkbert> do you know whether the people compiling 1) the yogbox, 2) the technic pack, 3) tekkit have applied for permission to include equivalent exchange in their respective mod packs ? [21:41] == Solarflare[FuG] [~Solarflar@134.129.203.28] has quit [Ping timeout: 194 seconds] [21:42] <Heya> and what side are you on? modders usually dont like technic as they didnt really care about asking before using to start with, how they are now and if they have permission, i dont know.. [21:42] == Alchemist [~x-90@41.141.22.165] has left #ee [] [21:43] == Griptzion [webchat@c-24-1-44-63.hsd1.il.comcast.net] has joined #ee [21:44] <denkbert> well [21:44] <denkbert> I usually don't take sides unless I am informed enough to make a decision [21:44] <denkbert> which is why have come to this channel in the first place [21:44] <Zerokyuuni> technic had conditional permission, which they accepted. and then went "fuck you faggot your conditions are too hard and we'll do what we want anyway" [21:45] <Zerokyuuni> also technic and tekkit are the exact same thing [21:45] <denkbert> I am aware of that, but they're still two separate mod packs [21:45] <Zerokyuuni> not really [21:45] <denkbert> unsure whether they'd need two separate sets of permissions [21:45] <Zerokyuuni> one has buildcraft 3, the other doesn't :p [21:45] <Heya> one for ssp and one stripped down one for smp [21:46] <Coffeene> help! I am one of the admins from the Technic Wiki, but I don't have any contact with the actual Technic team and I consider myself impartial to the whole debate [21:47] <denkbert> I wanted to know how things actually are before forming an opinion [21:48] <denkbert> Zerokyuuni: do you know anything about this conditional permission you mentioned earlier ?
