The Nova Catalyst is a supercharged version of TNT. It leaves massive craters and can blow through all materials with ease. They also have a huge area of effect. Nova Catalysts also will not hurt you, or any other living thing. While you can stand next to it, it is not recommended to do so, as it leaves a very large crater.
It will safely destroy all materials and leave them in their 'collectable' form, so there is no loss of materials. The Catalyst also doesn't leave individual blocks lying around, and will teleport them to you, so you don't have to worry about lava either, and this happens no matter how far you are from the blast. As a side affect, the lag that is present when massive amount of blocks floating around is not present either.
