Minecraft Forge is a mod included in the Technic modpack. While it does not itself change the game noticeably, it provides support and compatibility layers for other mods. Most notably, it provides an "ore dictionary" that lets common materials added by multiple mods be recognized as the same thing. For example, both RedPower and IndustrialCraft add Copper and Tin; Forge makes each mod's equivalent items interchangeable.
