The Darkness Generator is a craftable item in Thaumcraft 2.
Note that despite being crafted without an infuser, you still need to research it at the Quaesitum before you can craft it. The Darkness Generator is an Eldritch item and is crafted using items generally only found at the bottom of the Eldritch Monoliths.

The Darkness Generator is used to create Seeds of Darkness, an item used in numerous other Eldritch crafted items. The Generator requires 'conventional' seeds - such as those harvested from wheat or tall grass - to do so.
There are several restrictions on the Darkness Generator's ability to operate. First, it must be inside and sheltered from light - any light (even moonlight) hinders it. Secondly, it must be placed close to a Monolith.

Note that as the Eldritch Stone the monolith platform is made of and the monolith itself emit some faint light, you will need to cover the generators to get optimal funcitonality. The generator interface has a colored icon indicating the amount of light it is recieving. Yellow is full light/daylight, red is low light/moonlight, and black is darkness.
