You can craft into 4 Dark Matter Blocks from 4 Dark Matter Orbs.
Once crafted for the first time, you can switch Dark Matter Orbs into Blocks and the reverse for no loss in a Transmutation Tablet. It is even more durable than obsidian, and can only be mined in any reasonable amount of time with a Dark Matter Pick.
You can use an Energy Condenser to create a Dark Matter Block out of a diamond block. They can also be crafted.
4 x 192 (Obsidian) + 3 x 13,824 (Diamond Block) + 2 x 256 (Mobius Fuel)= 42752 EMC each (only 128 EMC greater than its value).
Dark Matter Blocks can be converted back into Dark Matter using an Energy Condenser or Transmutation Tablet. They are also used in the creation of the Dark Matter Furnace.
It seems that Dark Matter Blocks and Red Matter Blocks are transparent to explosions. An explosion will not destroy DM blocks, but can destroy blocks behind them. For this reason, do not encase your nuclear reactor in dark matter- use Reinforced Stone.
